  • Meizu: Assisted Meizu, one of the world’s largest smartphone manufacturers, in preparing a detailed due diligence report and legislative tracker covering data protection, artificial intelligence (AI), IoT, and localization requirements for IoT data . This work ensured Meizu’s compliance with evolving data privacy regulations and technological standards in the Middle East jurisdictions.
  • HCL Tech: Advised HCL Tech, the Indian multinational information technology leader, on preparing comprehensive checklists for identifying and tracking legal and regulatory requirements in the Middle East jurisdictions. This included updates related to finance, foreign exchange, corporate secretarial compliance, and TMT, with a focus on data protection and privacy.
  • Qcentris Group: Conducted a full legal due diligence for Qcentris Group, a multinational leader in software development and computer systems. The due diligence covered data protection compliance, intellectual property rights, and IT registrations, ensuring alignment with local and international data regulations.
  • Xiaomi: Provided comprehensive legal advice to Xiaomi on data privacy and telecommunications implications for the launch of a robot vacuum cleaner equipped with vSLAM technology and an integrated camera for real-time location tracking. Additionally, assisted Xiaomi in designing an “email marketing campaign,” ensuring compliance with applicable laws for promotional emails and advertising information.

Selected Recent Experience in TMT

  • Maersk & Raed Ventures: Advised Maersk, the Danish shipping giant, and Raed Ventures, a Saudi Arabian VC, on the Egyptian and Saudi legal aspects of a $42 million Series A investment in Trella, a technology platform connecting shippers to carriers.
  • US-Based Game Developer: Advised a prominent U.S.-based games developer on the rollout of a mobile application and connected cloud service in Egypt and the Middle East. The app integrates augmented reality, allowing users to superimpose graphics onto the real-world view from their phone’s camera. Our advice covered privacy concerns, copyright/trademark issues, mapping rights, patents, and creative development considerations.
  • Chenyee: Conducted legal due diligence on Chenyee, a Chinese company with an Egyptian subsidiary engaged in selling mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, and accessories. The review focused on intellectual property licenses, trademark registrations, and telecommunications licenses and approvals.
  • Qcentris: Performed legal due diligence for Qcentris Egypt, a subsidiary of the multinational Qcentris Group, specializing in software development, digital transformation, QA services, and more. The assessment covered corporate compliance, shareholder agreements, client contracts, IT registrations with the Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), IP licenses, and employment and social insurance compliance.
  • ElCinema: Advised ElCinema, the largest digital Arabic movie database in the Middle East, on licensing requirements, corporate governance, contract reviews, and intellectual property matters, supporting their content marketing, online booking, and video production services.
  • DAZN: Provided legal guidance to DAZN, a subscription-based video streaming service, on Egyptian and Saudi media law, telecommunications law, data protection, advertising regulations, consumer protection, and cybersecurity laws.
  • UNiDAYS: Assisted UNiDAYS with navigating the legal requirements for their digital services in Egypt and KSA, including corporate structuring, tax implications, data privacy, consumer protection, intellectual property, trademark registrations, and marketing emails.
  • OVS: Supported OVS, an Italian retail services company, in entering a franchise agreement. Advised on technology transfer, intellectual property matters, consumer protection, and other related liabilities.
  • Learn2Earn Program: Advised Learn2Earn on their online program rollout across the EMEA region, addressing potential legal and regulatory challenges specific to Egypt and KSA.
