E-Learning in Public Universities

In the light of the precautionary measures adopted by the Egyptian government to combat the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, the Egyptian Prime Minister issued Decree No.1200/2020 to allow public universities to teach their curricula through electronic means of communication and promote distance learning.
The Decree left it to each collage and institute to decide whether to hold exams electronically in light of its available infrastructure and technological capabilities.

Egypt Sets Waste-to-Energy Tariff

The Egyptian Cabinet has approved the Waste-to-Energy tariff at EGP 1.4/Kwh. The approval was issued by virtue of Decree no. 41 of 2019 (the “Decree”).

Such tariff shall be applicable until reaching the maximum contractual capacity of 300 MW. Thereafter, the Cabinet will reconsider the tariff.

New Net Metering Rules in Egypt

On 28 April 2020, the Egyptian Electricity Utility and Consumer Protection regulatory Agency (“EgyptERA**”) issued Decree no. 2 of 2020 (the “Decree”) setting out the new rules for net metering. This Decree is effective as of 20 May 2020 and it replaced previous decrees announced by EgyptERA in relation to net metering to the extent such decrees contradict with the provisions of the new Decree.

What to do if an employee is infected with COVID-19?

Report to the authorities

If one of your employee is diagnosed with COVID-19 or exposed to someone with COVID-19, you, as the employer, or the responsible manager of the entity, is required to report the case to the competent Health Office.

New Financial Relief Measures in Response to COVID-19 – Egypt

A new law is issued in Egypt authorizing the Cabinet of Ministers to take a number of financial relief measures to mitigate the implications of COVID-19 on the most affected business sectors. The law is issued under No. 24/2020 (hereinafter the “Law”).
